[{"_id":"project:15727","_type":"project","abstract":{"en":"The proposed research projects aims to identify effective, fair and sustainable solutions to the multifacted problem of medical brain drain (MBD). Since MBD is a result of several interconnected social, political and economic factors in a globalised world, the problem should be analysed from different disciplines and at a cross-national level. Arguably, a nuanced understanding of the phenomenon will not be achieved by relying on one theoretical perspective only, the tools of one discipline or by focusing on a single level of analysis. Rather, a broad grip, an interdisciplinary approach and multi-level analysis is needed. Causal processes relevant to migration operate on multiple levels simultaneously. Thus, this project utilises competence from the disciplines: applied ethics, development studies and educational research to compare health labor mobility in three countries: the Philippines, Sweden and Indonesia. Methodwise, both descriptive and analytical studies are employed. And, the constellation of countries represented in the project enables fruitful comparisons of MBD in developed and developing countries. More specifically, researchers in the project (1) take stock on drivers behind and effects of care worker emigration, (2) map and assess different strategies regarding human resource management and labor mobility in the health care sector and (3) evaluate the prospects of global resource sharing and health governance. "},"project_id":"2016-05919_VR","identifier_short":"2016-05919","dates":{"start_date":"2017-01-01","end_date":"2019-12-31"},"organizations":[{"funding":[{"id":"202100-5208","sv":"Vetenskapsrådet"},{"_id":97,"id":"857203-7219","sv":"Erna och Victor Hasselblads Stiftelse","en":"Hasselblad Foundation"},{"_id":127,"id":"262000-1129","sv":"Kungliga Vetenskapsakademien","en":"The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences"}]},{"coordinating":[{"_id":276,"id":"202100-3096","sv":"Linköpings universitet","en":"Linköping University"}]}],"people":[{"project_leaders":[{"name":"Palm, Elin","role":"principal_investigator","affiliation":[{"_id":276,"id":"202100-3096","sv":"Linköpings universitet","en":"Linköping University"}]}]},{"other_personnel":[{"name":"Collste, Göran","role":"co_investigator","affiliation":[{"_id":276,"id":"202100-3096","sv":"Linköpings universitet","en":"Linköping University"}]},{"_id":"authority-person:11685","orcid":"0000-0001-6885-9290","name":"Ericsson, Urban","role":"co_investigator","affiliation":[{"_id":985,"sv":"Universitetsbiblioteket","en":"University Library","parent":[{"_id":978,"sv":"Uppsala universitet","en":"Uppsala University"}]}]}]}],"tags":[{"_id":11784,"id":"60302","sv":"Etik","en":"Ethics"}],"titles":{"sv":"A Global Crisis in Health - perspectives from Indonesia, The Philippines and Sweden","en":"En Global Hälsokris - perspektiv från Indonesien, Fillipinerna och Sverige"},"total_funding":"600000","type_of_awards":{"sv":"Projektbidrag","en":"Project grant"},"publications":[{"id":"diva2:133","type":"book","issued":{"date-parts":[[2017]]},"title":"Tegelpannor","language":"swe","author":[{"family":"Linder","given":"Greta","ORCID":"0000-0001-8903-9283","localId":"shgalr","affiliation":[{"id":"2050","name":"Södertörns högskola, Södertörns högskolebibliotek"}]}],"NBN":"urn:nbn:se:sh:diva-31550","localId":"skriv","published":[{"raw":"2017-03-10T09:54:00.000+01:00"}],"created":[{"raw":"2017-03-10T09:54:50.130+01:00"}],"updated":[{"raw":"2021-04-19T13:40:30.064+02:00"}],"URL":"http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:sh:diva-31550"},{"id":"diva2:817","type":"article-journal","status":"Published","issued":{"date-parts":[[2017]]},"title":"The First Mitochondrial Genomics and Evolution SMBE-Satellite Meeting : A New Scientific Symbiosis","language":"eng","author":[{"family":"Ostersetzer-Biran","given":"Oren","affiliation":[{"name":"Hebrew Univ Jerusalem, Inst Life Sci, Jerusalem, Israel."}]},{"family":"Lane","given":"Nick","affiliation":[{"name":"UCL, Dept Genet Evolut & Environm, London, England."}]},{"family":"Pomiankowski","given":"Andrew","affiliation":[{"name":"UCL, Dept Genet Evolut & Environm, London, England."}]},{"family":"Burton","given":"Ron","affiliation":[{"name":"Univ Calif San Diego, Scripps Inst Oceanog, Div Marine Biol Res, La Jolla, CA 92093 USA."}]},{"family":"Arnqvist","given":"Goran","ORCID":"0000-0002-3501-3376","affiliation":[{"name":"Uppsala Univ, Dept Ecol & Genet, Uppsala, Sweden."}]},{"family":"Filipovska","given":"Aleksandra","affiliation":[{"name":"Univ Western Australia, Sch Mol Sci, Nedlands, WA, Australia.;Univ Western Australia, Harry Perkins Inst Med Res, Nedlands, WA, Australia."}]},{"family":"Huchon","given":"Dorothee","affiliation":[{"name":"Tel Aviv Univ, George S Wise Fac Life Sci, Dept Zool, Tel Aviv, Israel.;Steinhardt Museum Nat Hist, Tel Aviv, Israel.;Israel Natl Ctr Biodivers Studies, Tel Aviv, Israel."}]},{"family":"Mishmar","given":"Dan","affiliation":[{"name":"Ben Gurion Univ Negev, Dept Life Sci, Beer Sheva, Israel."}]}],"abstract":"The central role of the mitochondrion for cellular and organismal metabolism is well known, yet its functional role in evolution has rarely been featured in leading international conferences. Moreover, the contribution of mitochondrial genetics to complex disease phenotypes is particularly important, and although major advances have been made in the field of genomics, mitochondrial genomic data have in many cases been overlooked. Accumulating data and new knowledge support a major contribution of this maternally inherited genome, and its interactions with the nucleus, to both major evolutionary processes and diverse disease phenotypes. These advances encouraged us to assemble the first Mitochondrial Genomics and Evolution (MGE) meeting-an SMBE satellite and Israeli Science foundation international conference (Israel, September 2017).
